CRANBERRY TEQUILA SUNRISE: Got Leftover Cranberry Sauce?

CRANBERRY TEQUILA SUNRISE

2 TBSP Cranberry Sauce
2 oz. Tequila (Patron Preferred)
1 oz. Orange Juice

Combine Cranberry Sauce and Tequila in Shaker.  Stir vigorously to break up and dissolve cranberry sauce.  Add Orange Juice.  Add 1 cup of ice to shaker and cover with the lid.  Shake for about 20 seconds, strain into rocks glass filled with ice.  Garnish with cherry and orange flag.  You could even add 7-up to do a Sparkling Version.

Happy Thanksgiving! 2 Cocktails to Get Through Dinner with the Family!

Charlotte Voisey, a representative from Stolichnaya Vodka teaches us step-by-step how to make a Wild Cherri Kiss and a Caipiroska! These drinks will not only impress your guests, but they only take a few minutes to make!

Caipiroska:
  • 6 lime cubes
  • ¾ oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz Stoli
  • Small portion of favorite fresh fruit – pineapple, grapes, mixed berries etc.
  • Muddle fruit with lime wedges and simple syrup, add Stoi and shake well.  Pour directly  into a rocks glass
Wild Cherri Kiss:
  • 1 oz Stoli Wild Cherri
  • 2 bar spoons cherry preserve
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • 3 oz Rose Champagne
  • Prepare a Champagne flute with a real cherry in the bottom.  Combine Stoli, jam and lemon in a shaker and shake well.  Strain into a flute then top slowly with Champagne

What a better way to enjoy the release of this movie than to celebrate with a fun, easy, and smart cocktail?


RECIPE

3 1/2 oz gin or black vodka (preferred)
1/2 oz. black brandy or raspberry liqueur
Lemon Twist for Garnish

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice.  Shake well.  Strain into a chilled cocktail or highball glass if you prefer.  Garnish with a lemon twist.

THE GREAT MONTEZUMA'S HOT CHOCOLATE

The Great Montezuma's Favorite Hot Chocolate Drink. Photo by Brenda.This hot concoction was developed by mixologist and travel writer Richard Sterling.  The principal author of Lonely Planet's World Food series, he has been dubbed the Indiana Jones of Gastronomy for his willingness to go anywhere and court any danger for the sake of a good meal. His now 14 books include The Adventure of Food; The Fearless Diner; and the award winning Traveler's Tales Food: A Taste of the Road. He has been honored by the James Beard Foundation for his food writing, and by the Lowell Thomas awards for his travel literature. His lifestyle column appears monthly in San Francisco magazine. Though he lives in Berkeley, California, he is very often politically incorrect.
INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS FOR PREPARATION:


  1. 1Combine the hot chocolate, honey, vanilla and vodka in a small pitcher.
  2. 2Pour into two tall glasses or Irish coffee glasses.
  3. 3Pour 1 tablespoon of cream on the top of each glass and let it float.
  4. 4Dust with a pinch of cayenne pepper and garnish with cinnamon sticks. If preferred, you may garnish with grated chocolate and a dried red chile.

STEAMED MILK: LIQUID RELAXATION

There is something very warm and comforting about hot steamed milk in a cup.  Personally I prefer a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and a touch of vanilla or sugar.  Its luxurious and it warms the heart.



CUP OF COMFORT

8 oz. whole milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 TBSP. sugar or agave
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon

Heat all ingredients in sauce pan on stove using medium heat until the milk is almost boiling.  Turn off the heat and pour into a mug to serve immediately.  Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Herbal Teas: Gearing up for Flu Season


TEA REMEDY RECIPE FOR THE FLU AND THE COMMON COLD
1 tsp. Sage 
1 tsp. Peppermint 
1 tsp. Yarrow
1 tsp. Ginger to taste (don’t be shy) 
A sprig of thyme.   

Make a pot of this up at a time and drink every few hours. Raw Honey is also great to add as it is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and is a great antioxidant.
This tea has a mixture of herbs to assist with sweating, relieving muscle spasms, clearing mucus, microbes and increasing circulation.  All these actions helps your body feel better and clear the fever sooner. Make sure you are covered-up in layers when using this tea as it opens up your pores.

You can find Yarrow at specialty Herbs Stores or Natural Foods Stores like Whole Foods or Sunflower Market.  
HOT TIP OF THE WEEK:  Make sure you are steeping your tea for at least 7 minutes to get the most potent brew possible.

THAI BOXER COCKTAIL- A delicious adventure from the breezy tropics to the warmth of your home.  Perfect pairing with pork, most seafood or a grilled chicken dish.

          Scott Beattie comes to us from renowned restaurant Cyrus in San Francisco with this sweet and spicy concoction.  It integrates the herbal forces of Thai Basil, mint, and cilantro.  His drinks are made using ingredients that comes to him from friends or local farmers, most of which are delivered to his door.

10 Thai Basil Leaves (plus 1 Thai Basil Sprig)
10 mint leaves
10 cilantro leaves
1/2 oz. simple syrup
Ice
1.5 oz. vanilla spiced rum
1/2 oz. unsweetened coconut milk
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. chilled ginger beer

In a cocktail shaker, muddle the basil leaves with the mint, cilantro, and simple syrup.  Add ice and the vanilla spiced rum, coconut milk and lime juice and shake well.  Strain the drink into an ice filled highball glass and stir in the ginger beer.  Garnish with the basil sprig.

FALLING LEAVES COCKTAIL

This is one of my favorite Fall concoctions and I know you will find it to be delicious too!!

FALLING LEAVES
 (A warming blend of brandy, apples, orange and honey!  Very sexy indeed!)




2 oz. Riesling Wine
1 oz. Pear Brandy
1/2 oz. agave
1/2 oz. Orange Curacao
1 dash peychaud's bitters

Combine all and pour in a rocks glass over ice.  What a delicious and alluring combination!!

ROOIBOS BERRY SPRITZER- GET OVER THAT HANGOVER!!!

ROOIBOS BERRY SPRITZER

1/2 cup brewed cold rooibos tea, (loose leaf or tea bag is ok)
1/2 cup pureed strawberry or raspberry
3 TBSP. sugar or 1 TBSP. Agave Nectar
1/2 cup Pellegrino or Sparkling Water
I Lime Wheel

Brew Rooibos tea extra strong using boiling water and let it steep for 7 minutes.  Ice down hot tea and strain out ice.  Sweeten with sugar or agave and stir to dissolve.  Add strawberry puree and stir.  Strain into an ice filled rocks glass halfway up.  Top off with Pellegrino and a wedge of lime.  Enjoy!!
